You’re My Obsession: Cool Design, Photography, Architecture, and Stuff for Kids

Jump by Max Wanger

My husband has excellent taste. Remember last year, when my obsession with Max Wanger began? Drew did, and I was rewarded with this AWESOME framed print as an anniversary gift.

I love it so much! Not as much as I love my sweet husband, of course, but lots. I hung it with a print by Fifi du Vie that’s a perfect companion.

Olive Loves Alfie

Olive Loves Alfie is a cool “family lifestyle” shop in London that I hope to visit someday. I would take the time to describe what they’re all about, but they did such a great job of doing it themselves that there’s no way I could top it.

“We celebrate the originality of children and encourage their individuality and creativity. We find the greatest pleasure in the simplest of things. We love discovery and adventure. We value honesty and spontaneity. We are inspired by colour, print and possibility. We embrace nostalgia and we treasure things forever. We strive for a sustainable future. Bringing an individual authentic aesthetic with a dose of high kitsch, vintage style and classic design in equal measure, ‘Olive Loves Alfie’ captures the quintessential magic of childhood.”

There’s also a blog. Yay!

Gary Hustwit

It’s so strange how my obsessions evolve. I was planning for this obsession to be this cool guide to design for non-designers (with tons of resources) that I learned about from Jordan’s twitter feed. Instead, I watched the trailer for Objectified and decided to go with director Gary Hustwit.

I watched Helvetica sometime last year and loved it. Now I’m dying to see the two other films in Gary’s design trilogy, Objectified and Urbanized. Have any of you seen these already? If so, what did you think?

Julius Shulman

Here’s another one. Initially, I was going to share Sight Unseen’s Paper View as my primary obsession. Thanks, CoolHunting. Then I fell down the interwebs rabbit hole and ran across someone I’ve loved for a long time but never posted about here, photographer Julius Shulman.

I still can’t believe I lived in L.A. (twice!) and never visited any of the Case Study Houses. It makes me sad.

Apparently I realized there was a documentary about him at some point, because it’s in my Netflix instant queue, but I have no recollection of it. I must watch it soon!

Blog Redesign

I swear, I only meant to change the social media icons to the cool Tangerine Tango ones by Noisette Marketing this time, but I got consumed and started tweaking a lot of things. Lately I’ve been looking at my blog and wanting a cleaner design, so this is what I came up with. What do you think?
