You’re My Obsession: Fancy + Funky Fashion

You guys, I’ve been under the weather. I couldn’t even talk this weekend, and still haven’t completely gotten my voice back! I don’t think I’ve ever lost my voice. My parents are visiting and I’ve had to whisper or mime things to them. It’s crazy.

Okay, no more whining…for now. On to the obsession list!

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012-2013 Fashion Campaign

If you’re anything like me, you’ve replaced your fashion magazine subscriptions with interior design and beautiful booklike artsy quarterlies. But this fall I decided to buy some the September issues: Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Nylon. They’re full of ads and layouts that I find myself studying for graphic design inspiration.

The Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012-2013 campaign, whose essence is the romance of travel, is one of the coolest things I’ve seen so far. I’m especially drawn to the woman above on the far right wearing the oversized sunglasses.

Mister Sullivan

I first saw Mister Sullivan’s photography while reading his guest post on SF Girl By Bay. It was a warm summer day and Michael/Mister Sullivan’s photographs of the English Coast made me want to put on a sweater. They were that good. I’ve been exploring his site and Flickr and I wanted to share a few photos with you guys too.

My Fashion Database

I haven’t spent a lot of time on My Fashion Database yet, but when I saw that you could look at some of the covers, features, and ad campaigns in vintage issues of Seventeen and Mademoiselle, I was in.

Now if I could only find some Seventeen issues from the late 70s and 80s. I loved that magazine and it would be fun to look at them now. I’m pretty sure that would make me want to roll on some Tickle, douse myself in Love’s Baby Soft, go to the mall, and buy some Bonne Bell Lip Smackers.

PUNK: Chaos to Couture

I don’t have plans to visit New York in 2013, but who knows what might come up? If I’m there between May 9th and August 11th I’d love to see PUNK: Chaos to Couture at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

From the Exhibition Overview:

The exhibition, in the Museum’s second-floor Cantor galleries, will feature approximately 100 designs for men and women. Original punk garments from the mid-1970s will be juxtaposed with recent, directional fashion to illustrate how haute couture and ready-to-wear have borrowed punk’s visual symbols, with paillettes being replaced with safety pins, feathers with razor blades, and bugle beads with studs.  Focusing on the relationship between the punk concept of ‘do-it-yourself’ and the couture concept of ‘made-to-measure,’ the exhibition will be organized around the materials, techniques, and embellishments associated with the anti-establishment style.  Presented as an immersive multimedia, multisensory experience, the clothes will be animated with period music videos and soundscaping audio techniques.

Prada Real Fantasies Spring/Summer 2012 Lookbook

Fine, this is an older one, but I was looking at Prada’s Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook on Trendland, my source for all things collagey cool, and thought I should share.

Now I want to make a collage.

Note: Between the time I started and finished this post I subscribed to Vogue. Ha! Fashion, yay!
