You’re My Obsession: September 5-11, 2011

The Fresh Exchange

This week I read an inspiring post on Megan Gilger’s blog The Fresh Exchange. Megan (of Hitch Design Studio) was talking about the wall that artists, designers, writers, and all types of creatives hit at different times during their career. The one where you feel like everything you make sucks and you basically lose faith in yourself. You feel like you’re not creatively capable of accomplishing the things that you want to do…the things that you HAVE to do.

I had a similar feeling a couple of weeks ago. I was in a “I’m never going to get anywhere with all this stuff” creative depression. For about three days I just felt BLAH. Then this week I read Megan’s post and was so glad that she opened up and put it out there. I think that next time I find myself in that very specific place of wallowing I’m going to reread Megan’s words of inspiration. I think it will definitely make me feel less alone and may even drag me out of that creative funk. Thanks, Megan! xoxo

PANTONE HOTEL

Twitter is beautiful. You can find out about awesome things that you didn’t know existed. Thanks to a tweet from RGB Shop + Gallery in San Francisco, now I know about the PANTONE HOTEL in Brussels.

Looks like I need to go to Belgium.

Haircut and Color

You guys, my hair has been driving me mad. Luckily, my super cool pal Melissa agreed to provide me with some ideas for a new cut via Pinterest. See? Pinterest has practical purposes, Drew. Gah!

My Super Cool Friend Melissa, Who Has Cute Hair and Awesome Glasses

Melissa lives in London, so while I was sleeping she was pinning. When I woke up it was like Christmas morning for hair. I sat down with my coffee to see what Melissa came up with for me. Interestingly, because I’m cool too, she and I had pinned some similar styles. Here are the photos I’m taking to the stylist at the end of the week.

I’m going to try a new salon this time. I usually end up going back to my usual salon every time I do this, but Vain is closer to my office and the person that I’m seeing charges less that my normal guy. Hopefully, I won’t be crying later.

I’m also going to wash that gray right out of my hair with a rich dark brown. Possibly with some red highlights. Sooooo excited. It’s happening on Friday afternoon, so you’ll see photos sometime this weekend. :)

Peskimo

I’m digging the cool illustrations at Peskimo.

Saul Bass: A Life in Film & Design

Thanks to Cool Hunting, I learned about this sure to be awesome upcoming release about motion picture title sequence creator and graphic artist Saul Bass. The book will be released in November, but until then here are some samples of his movie print ad work.
