Creative for Hire: An Open Letter To The Universe

Will you help me find my dream job?
If you subscribe to The Creative Brief, you know that I’m moving away from self-employment and searching for career opportunities that require more commitment than a one-off project. Basically, I’m looking for a creative home. Here’s the letter in case you want to read more.

While I’m definitely using traditional methods to search for meaningful work, I want to go a step further. I’d love it if you would help me.

I was talking with my husband about an appointment I had with a creative staffing agency when I realized that I haven’t been using one of my top job search tools. The power of connections.

I’ve been writing in this space for more than five years now, and while I know many of you who visit and read the words that I share, there are so many more of you that I haven’t had the opportunity to meet. While I have reached out to people that I know when I’ve looked for work in the past, I haven’t really reached out to those that I don’t know. That’s why I’m sharing exactly what I want right here in this post. I’m going to ask friends and strangers to send it out far and wide, all over the interwebs, because who knows who will end up reading it and may be looking to hire someone to do exactly what I want to do. Here it goes!

What I Want To Do

I want to create – I want to design, photograph, illustrate, make art, and write. I want to contribute my ideas and strategies as part of a team that’s responsible for coming up with creative advertising and marketing concepts and stories. I love art directing and creating editorial-style layouts and magazine article-like designs, creating mixed media collages and abstract paintings that could be used for branding, editorial, advertising, or product design, and making mood boards and curating art, images, and products. Working in a role that would have me creating editorial illustrations or designing magazines, books, ad campaigns, lookbooks, or catalogues sounds fantastic.

Who I Want To Do It For

I’m interested in forming long-term business relationships with creative visual brands and publications. I’m especially interested in working on projects that involve contemporary art, fashion, beauty, publishing, modern architecture, and design.

Relocation?

Maybe. It really depends on the opportunity and the place. We can safely say that if a position or assignment takes me and my family to Europe or Australia for a year or so, we wouldn’t mind at all.

I think this will be an interesting experiment in the way that we look for work in our highly connected digital age. I’ll keep plugging along with the traditional routes of staffing agencies and responding to job postings while you help me circulate this around the world. Let’s see who finds my dream job first!

Thank you SO MUCH for your help. I appreciate all of your social media shares and email sends. Have a great weekend! xo
