My Fall Uniform: Prairie Underground with Tieks or Boots

My fall uniform: Prairie Underground leggings, super soft sleeveless shirt, and cloak hoodie; Martha McQuade hand-dyed cotton scarf, and Tieks ballet flats or black leather over-the-knee boots

There are certain interests or paths that recur in my life. Right now I’m focused on simplicity, minimalism, meditation, and living with intention. More about those things and a little resource list at the end of this post! I remember the first time I read something on these topics. It was 1997ish or so and I devoured Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy. I never made it through the entire book back then, but I bet I could do it now.

One of the things I’ve been thinking about during my current phase of exploration are capsule wardrobes. Have you heard of them? Ideally, you pare down your closet to 30ish items solely made up of clothes that you love to wear and make you feel great. I’ve done a good job getting rid of a lot of the things that were just hanging there, and just recently made a shopping trip to get some high-quality investment pieces that I’ll be wearing for seasons to come.

Right now I’m really into Prairie Underground. The clothes are beautiful, high quality, incredibly soft, and designed and made right here in Seattle. A couple of years ago I bought a pair of their denim leggings and I still wear them often. This year I invested in an extremely soft organic cotton black cloak hoodie, the Falconette sleeveless top in cocoa, and the long cigarette pants in ink pot. I also invested in a pair of over-the-knee black leather boots similar to these from Nordstrom and a pair of matte black Tieks. This hand-dyed scarf from Martha McQuade’s Scarfshop is often in my bag or around my neck – mine is gray.

I wear some version of this outfit so often that it’s become my uniform – a really soft, comfortable, high-quality, stylish uniform. Winning!
