Soppy: A Love Story and More

Soppy: A Love Story by Phillipa Rice

Happy summer reading, friends! If we’re connected on Goodreads, you’ll notice that I usually have several books in my “Currently Reading” list. Right now I’ve got five books going – Just Kids by Patti Smith, Turn by Anne Truitt, The Grim Grotto (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 11) written by Lemony Snicket and illustrated by Brett Helquist and Michael Kupperman, Louise Dahl-Wolfe: A Photographer’s Scrapbook, and de Kooning: A Retrospective by John Elderfield.

Because I tend to read this way (and work this way…and live this way…), it can sometimes take me a bit longer to actually finish one book. Don’t get me wrong, there are some times when I completely get into the book I’m reading and leave the other four or five aside while I fully immerse myself in the book in my hand. That happened recently with Soppy: A Love Story by British illustrator Phillipa Rice. I loved this book so much that I read it in one sitting! Phillipa’s illustrations are fantastic and I could totally relate to her story that sweetly conveys a romantic relationship with gestures that may seem less than overt to someone who hasn’t experienced them. When I was done I passed the book to my husband who read it that night and he loved it too.

After I finish studying the Willem de Kooning book, I’ve got another library book on my table that I’m eager to dig into – Georgia O’Keeffe: Abstraction. What are you reading? Connect with me on Instagram or Twitter, or send me an email and let me know!
