Art Challenge: Paint Big

Autumn in the City Abstract Cityscape Painting by Melanie Biehle - feels like fall in Central Park. Makes me want to walk around NYC and visit art museums.

In a way, I feel like my whole twisty path to becoming an artist has been one big challenge. But since I’ve gained skills, explored a lot of mediums, styles, and materials, and built-up confidence in my work, now I’m addressing more specific challenges. The one that I’m working on now is “paint big.”

Autumnal Abstract Painting by Melanie Biehle – fall colors, leaves, mark making, patterns

I’ve written about this challenge before and shared why I’ve been hesitant, but now it’s really time. Part of it is because I’ve started working with a local art consultant who sources original paintings for interior designers and architects. A lot of her clients are interested in larger paintings, so that’s just one more reason to go big!

Cool Blues Abstract Cityscape by Melanie Biehle. Acrylic mark making paired with watercolor and gouache. The coolness and energy of this painting makes me miss Gossip Girl. xoxo

Here’s a video of me chatting about these paintings and showing you some of the details up close, if you’re interested.

I’m in a groove right now. It’s been a while, so it feels really great. I’m working on some new paintings for an art show in November, and I’m also accepting commissioned work. I’ve been kind of quiet with my art newsletters since summer, but I’ll be jumping back on those soon. You can subscribe here!

Have a great week! xoxo
