#GivingTuesday: Art With Heart in Seattle

#GivingTuesday Art With Heart in Seattle

So many holiday hashtags, so many short attention spans. Am I right?

Today is the best one: #GivingTuesday. I’m donating to the Seattle nonprofit Art With Heart. They help children overcome traumatic experiences like illness, divorce, violence, or death of a loved one through creative expression.

In their own words:

“Art With Heart is on a mission to spread the healing power of creative expression to kids facing trauma or adversity. We envision a world where all kids and communities who experience trauma or adversity will have the creative tools, resources, and support to turn pain into possibility.”

Visit the Art With Heart website for more information about how they help children who have suffered from stressful experiences early in life. Early intervention is crucial.

“If left untreated, these adverse experiences early in life can alter – in a lasting way – a child’s developing brain and their capacity to learn and adapt to stressful situations, leading to long-term behavioral or relationship problems…

If mental health issues go undetected and untreated, these disorders can lead to a life of school failure, family conflicts, substance abuse, violence or suicide…

Reducing anxiety, coping with overwhelming feelings and strengthening emotional development are critical steps to trauma recovery. Studies also show that creative expression can help stall or reverse the damaging effects of trauma, hardship and crisis, by helping them explore, articulate, and express repressed feelings.”

Help Art With Heart raise $10,000 this holiday season.

The funds will provide Art with Heart therapeutic activity books to 1,000 kids in our region, just a fraction of the millions of kids in the US facing trauma, grief, or adversity this holiday season. Here’s a link straight to their fundraising site for #GivingTuesday. If that’s not working, visit the Art With Heart website. Thank you for your help. xoxo
