You’re My Obsession: 60s Rom-Coms, Planting Kisses, Paper Illustrations, Party Supplies

This Month’s Obsession Image

As some of you guys know, every month I create a new image for my weekly You’re My Obsession posts. I love the old-school late 50s and 60s era romantic comedies with Rock Hudson and Doris Day, like Pillow Talk, and I’m obsessed with the Audrey Hepburn movies during this time period. The modern day Down With Love is another favorite of mine, which pays tribute to this style of film.

I love the look, furniture, clothes, and colors of these movies, and I’ve been obsessed with creating an obsession image inspired by them for a while now. I hope you like it!

Plant a Kiss

Two authors that I love, Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Peter Reynolds, have teamed up to create this great-looking children’s book called Plant a Kiss. I’m looking forward to reading it and sharing it with Nathaniel.

Putting My Alt Learnings Into Practice

In addition to sharing some of my Lessons from Alt with you, I’ve been working on incorporating them into Inward Facing Girl. You’ll notice a new page, The Fine Print, where I lay out my terms/policies for advertising, commenting, and how my content can be used, and I’m also exploring the best ways to introduce advertising into my blog.

Please know that I am keeping you in mind when I select the advertisers I want to work with. If I don’t think it will be interesting or useful for you, I won’t include it on my site. Also, I’m all about transparency, so if I write a post that is sponsored I will tell you that upfront. I have no interest in trying to trick you into buying something, and I will give you my honest opinion.

I’m going to keep working down my to-do list, as well as add more to it when I take my online Alt Channel classes in February. If you’re thinking about going to Alt next year, definitely try out the classes. I’m so excited that I get to participate in these year round!

Shop Sweet Lulu

I don’t throw parties. I don’t even really go to parties. But I have to admit, I’m really digging party supplies these days.

This week I participated in my pal Supal’s Art to Inspiration collaboration. My contribution was a collection of images that I would use as a jumping off point for hosting a Valentine’s Day Brunch Fiesta. Besides really wanting an enchilada after I created the board, part of me actually wanted to host this imaginary party.

If I were going to have a party, Shop Sweet Lulu is where I would start creating my shopping list. I mean, the selection of stripey straws alone is drool worthy.

It’s all so pretty, I’m just going to HAVE to have a party sometime.

Chloé Fleury

Anthology Magazine #6 features a San Francisco based artist named Chloé Fleury who creates very cool “paper illustrations.” I love the woman with the fox mask!

Check out the great cover she created for the magazine.

I think my next art experiment will have to involve paper cutting/sculpture.
