A Painting that Became Part of the Creative Process

Immerse, Reflect, Distill, Share (2026)

My paintings usually have an external purpose.

They’re part of a collection that is going to be shared or shown. Perhaps they were made for a licensing partner who is going to transform them into beautifully framed fine art prints or wallcoverings. Sometimes I create paintings that are commissioned by collectors or interior designers.

But I created this small painting just for me.

It accompanied me all the way from my Seattle art studio to the small, beautiful Greek Island of Hydra (via Istanbul and Athens) for my Sēfari artist immersion. It joined me as one of the personal artifacts that I was instructed to gather for the experience.

Now that I’m back, this painting received a title — Immerse, Reflect, Distill, Share — based on a specific ritual that Jobi and I worked on together.

Physically working with inspiration in Hydra, Greece. (2026). Thinking of calling this my excavation table, since I’ll be recreating this process in my Seattle studio.

Now I’ll mount the canvas on a cradled wood panel, and it will be given an important spot on my studio wall, charged with before and after energy of an important journey taken.

A new method of working with my own creativity.
