Sketchbook: Another Self / Zeytin Ağacı

Another Self, a Turkish drama by Nuran Evren Şit on Netflix.

I finished watching the series finale of the Turkish drama Another Self / Zeytin Ağacı last week, and I’m going to miss it so much. I’m already planning on rewatching it, after I rewatch The Gift / Atiye. Nuran Evren Şit is the creator and writer of Another Self and was a writer on The Gift as well, and I’m very much looking forward to more of her work.

In addition to the enviable seaside setting of Ayvalık, the friendship of the three main characters, and the story itself, I was drawn to the psychological aspects of the show. I like that there was a lot of self-examination. Even though I’m no longer a student of psychology or work in the field, I still think about — maybe even analyze — psychology and emotion often, so it’s interesting to me when I find shows, movies, or novels that are in that realm.

This kind of internal psychology paired with analogies of the sea and I’m swooning. It’s like you’re practically inside my brain, Nuran.
