Sketchbook: Stone and Wood as Inspiration

Beachcombing at Edgewater Beach in Mukilteo, Washington. Lines and patterns of a large rock.

Beachcombing at Edgewater Beach, Mukilteo. I often find rocks that I have the urge to photograph.

Picking up rocks, photographing their details, and putting them back is one of the things that I do at Edgewater Beach. A couple of weeks ago I loved the lines and rust effects of this stone, so I added it to my photographic collection.

I’m working on a large painting in my studio now that I’m hoping to add to my wallcovering collection at Look Walls. My beach rock images, slabs of marble and granite that I’ve been obsessing over on Pinterest, and my collection of driftwood photographs are providing inspiration for the artwork.

The lines, color palette, and weathering of Pacific Northwest driftwood.

I love driftwood. The lines, color palette, and weathering of this small section of a large log is amazing.

Interesting rock patterns catch my attention.
